A RAINY DAY WEDDING AT THE POUGHKEEPSIE GRAND// NEW YORK
Most brides fear the word “rain” on their wedding day. After 2020 it seems like rain is the most minor inconvenience. Ashley & Nick tied the knot on a rainy day that felt as if it was straight out of a beautiful painting. The Grandview in Poughkeepsie was against the backdrop of foggy mountains and bridges, could their be a more romantic setting to say I do?
One of the biggest joys in being a wedding photographer has been to watch families grow. To see siblings welcome new siblings, mothers in laws unite and to hear a little kid say “your my uncle now” will always melt my heart. Ashley & Nicks family is not only growing by new in-laws but by a sweet baby girl in a few weeks. Ashley & I met back in college. We were acquaintances then, but after engagement sessions, dinners and plenty of phone calls we are good friends now. Ashley has got to be the most chill bride, there was no bridezilla behavior here. Nick is on her same place of cool, calm and collected. He has a serious disposition, and then he saw Ashley. A smile broke across his face that I imagine we will soon see again when she gives birth to their daughter.
I love these two. I love how relaxed and elegant their wedding day was. How Ashley had arranged a surprise Star Wars cake for Nick. How her father held her head during their dance. I loved the way the Grandview looked as fog descended on the mountain and the rain caused everyone to huddle together. I love how Ashley & Nick kept whispering what I am sure was sarcastic comments back and forth to each other the whole day. Rain on your wedding day is actually a blessing, rain causes things to grow. The gardener in me cannot help but draw the comparison. Without rain no nutrients will ever penetrate the garden, all of the sun In the world alone grow something beautiful. My hope is that every time it rains Ashley & Nick remember that cozy day in March at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie when they said I do.
First looks with dad are my favorite, and this was one of the sweetest ones. Ashleys dad clearly treasures his little girl, and his new grandbaby!
Cant forget the guys, they were such a great group. They shaded the bridesmaids from the rain and I did’nt even have to wrangle them in!
Because this was a rainy day wedding we had the first look at the Poughkeepsie train station. Truthfully, it was perfection.
