A Winter Wedding at the Sklyands Manor

The Skylands Manor in Ridgewood, NJ cannot be a more perfect wedding venue. I mean, who doesnt want to get married in a literal castle? Skylands Manor is a wedding venue located right in the New Jersey Botanical Gardens. The grounds are perfectly manicured and at every corner is beautiful greenery, vine covered stone walls or wide open spaces, its a wedding photographers dream. Marisa and Michael planned their January wedding at The Skylands Manor and every moment was picture perfect, so naturally this blog post is a long one!
Marisa and Michael came to me from a couple I photographed YEARS ago, Teresa and Jason. The highest compliment I can receive is when a bride recommends me, especially years later! We instantly hit it off. Marisa is a NICU nurse and both of my babies have been NICU babies, I am here to tell you that these nurses are another type of special. Together these two create one of the most FUN couples. They love traveling, laughing and they ADORE Disney! Being around them is relaxing, you can really let your shoulders drop because they make you feel SO welcome.
It was a clear crisp sky day that greeted us at the Skylands Manor the morning of their wedding. Marisa and Michael were both so calm and eager to see one another at their first look, I will forever love the jitters that come with that moment before the groom turns and sees his bride. Marisa and Michael exchanged private vows during their first look, surrounded by the statuesque grounds and soaring stonework it was a picture perfect moment. Michael cares so much for Marisa. Holding her dress as we walked, making sure she was warm and making sure she got her hot chocolate mid portrait session! The warmth that they give off, their soft affection for one another is a joy to be around. Marisa and Michael thank you for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day, CONGRATULATIONS!
Ceremony Time
Skylands Manor does have a lovely clean room to have indoor wedding ceremonies. Wedding after wedding I hear brides wondering what the rain plan will be for their wedding ceremony so let me say this good and loud…think through that indoor ceremony option! I have had ceremonies be moved indoors due to extreme cold, heat and yes crazy weather so it does happen! I have never had a ceremony be “un-shootable” but I have had some difficult ceremonies to light, thankfully Skylands thinks ahead!
