Chelsea and Collin- A lush spring wedding

Chelsea and Collin- A lush spring wedding

Chelsea and Collin

When I think of a spring wedding I think flowers, I think lush greenery, I think light pink and open skies…basically I think of Chelsea and Collins wedding day.

The skies above West Hills Country Club in New York put on quite a show, from sporadic (yet perfect) rain storms to billowing clouds floating perfectly against a surreal blue sky these portraits are what I dream of.

Chelsea and Collin planned their wedding out of state, so I saw them at their engagement session and than next on their wedding day! If your one of my couples you know that I typically see you a whole lot more but let me tell you, we got along so well! Their naturally laid back chemistry has a contagious effect. While they were definitely on top of the details they happily handed over free reign to me, These for the record are my FAVORITE types of couples, they know what they want AND they trust that I can give it to them.

Its like the wedding day was going TOO well, the prep part of the day went according to schedule (which in the wedding world is a miracle), the ceremony went off without a hitch and as the sky sang for us we headed back to West Hills for the portraits. We headed into the tent to gather ourselves for portraits, the skies opened up and a storm that no one saw coming made its way into our “pleasantville” wedding day. Rain came POURING down, I mean simply gushing into the tent in literal waves, the staff was running around with shop vacs and frantically securing table cloths while Chelsea and Collin just watched the rain. I have to tell you they were SO calm, and thankfully this bizarre storm lasted about 15 minutes and than it was back to business as usual. The rain made the colors THAT much more vibrant, It created an ethereal steam rising from the ground and HANDS DOWN, some of my favorite bridal portraits ever!

I have so many couples who are missing huge parts of their hearts on their wedding day, For Chelsea it was her dad. Words cannot express how my heart feels for these brides, I know Chelsea isnt alone and truthfully this was a common heartbreak during so many of my weddings this past year. Chelsea had a heart sewn into her gown so her dad could be physically over the part of her body that he will always be emotionally…her heart.

A warm winter maternity session

A warm winter maternity session

Courtney + Nick

Maternity

It was 2 years ago that I stood in a beautiful grass field and captured Courtney and Nick exchanging vows (and flirty looks), It will always be one of my favorite weddings because these two are one of my favorite couples. I always keep up with my couples, Its too hard not to after we have spent one of the most memorable seasons of life together. My heart jumped for joy when Court messaged me and asked if I do maternity sessions, It wasnt announced yet to the public but its just like Courtney to be a planner and get her ducks in a row. They’re both about 5 weeks away from meeting their sweet little boy Cole, who doesnt know it yet but he is treasured by his momma and his daddy is already beaming with pride. Im so glad I was able to hang out with these 2 ( and get yelled at by park police but thats another story for another day) and capture yet ANOTHER life milestone. I am so excited for you both, cant wait to meet little Cole.

We are so glad that we are having a reallly mild winter over here because its March…It should be freezing. Our biggest challenge during this crisp winter maternity session truthfully was the fact that the wind was INSANE, it turns out that worked in our favor because girlfriend looks like Marilyn Monroe all windswept and what not.

For those of you pregnant mommas out there who might be eyeballing her stellar sapphire blue velvet dress, Its from Amazon…your welcome 🙂

A Glam Winter Wedding in New York

A Glam Winter Wedding in New York

Cassidy and Rick

Winter weddings have my heart. Glam winter weddings with all of the sun you can possibly imagine…now that my heart can barely handle.  There is something unique I have noticed about the winter sun, it has this brilliant way of hopping through tall  pieces of grass that long ago lost their green and illuminating everything around it. Cassidy and Ricky were lucky to be the recipients of such sun dancing around them on their brilliantly bright winter wedding day.

Their story is sweet and they have been together forever, these two are perhaps the most chill couple I have ever had grace the front of my camera. The vibe on their wedding day was relaxed and romantic because that’s the vibe that runs through their veins (which by the by is my favorite). Villa Borghese seems to have been designed for  Cassidys’ vision of a glam winter wedding, add in  some blinged out Badgley Mischka shoes and a wedding gown that shimmered ALMOST brighter than the sun and you have a photographer in her happy place.

Their portraits are everything that my heart desires in a bridal portrait session. Bridal portraits are actually a time to decompress believe it or not, after a crazy morning of getting dressed and fielding phone calls from this vendor and that you FINALLY get to enjoy just being together, and me and my camera will be right there for every moment. Cassidy and Rick….you the real MVPs and I can already tell that your in for one of those long love stories that make people swoon and wish they had what you have.

A Winter Wedding in New York

A Winter Wedding in New York

Sarah and John

Winter in New York, Its legendary. Winter weddings in New York CAN be legendary but talk about hoops to jump through.  When you are planning a Winter Wedding you HOPE for light snow falling in perfect fat flakes from the sky drifting into little glittering specks all around you and your hubby. You HOPE that traveling is not hazardous and all of your friends and family can still make it, In general your hail mary-ing for the most idyllic situation humanly possible…and Sarah and Johns January wedding was JUST THAT, LEGENDARY.

Anytime a wedding day calls for “extreme” weather my first concern is always how my bride is feeling, all of this planning just to have 8-12 inches reported for your wedding day but let me tell you, Sarah was THRILLED. Her joyful spirit it contagious, It was amazing how the bride was the one who uplifted everyone’s attitudes about the weather and Sarah was rewarded with the perfect scenario.

Villa Venezias ballroom feels like it was made for snowy wedding days; white marble floors, large windows spilling in diffused light from every angle and warm vibes coming off of the staff set the stage for some seriously epic moments. Sarah got into her gown in a scene that looked like it was out of a castle ( see below), She strolled down the picturesque staircase to see John for their first look gown swirling behind her and all. They both bravely walked out into a literal snowstorm to embrace the winter wonderland that was gracing New York with its presence and what followed are images that I will forever be proud of.

Their ceremony took place right as the sun set turning the view outside into a romantic blue haze, the violinist strummed out tale as old as time  ( which was my wedding song so naturally its a fave) and Sarah and John read each other heartfelt wedding vows. The reception was no less grand with first dances and parents dances leaving everyone in tears. Johns mom had passed not too long ago and he shared a sweet dance with his sister,  I promise you there was not one dry eye in the room. I want my couples to know that my heart bleeds for them when they are missing pieces of themselves on their wedding day, when dads are not their to give their daughter away or when moms arent their to dance their sons into marriage it just leaves a hole there is no way around it. This is where marriage plays one of its most beautiful roles, as a comfort. Their might not be a beloved mother or cherished father there but your new spouse will be there, and every time that hole opens up their love will fill it back in.

The night ended with just as much whimsy as it began, with a sparkler send off for the books! Sarah and John are currently on a beach in Mexico enjoying their honeymoon ( which they have earned) as I sit here in cold New York typing this blog post, I hope they know that the hard work put into this wedding was worth EVERY MOMENT. You two enjoy the beach and your FIRST week of marriage!

Dumbo Brooklyn Winter Engagement Session

Dumbo Brooklyn Winter Engagement Session

             Cara and Nick

Dumbo Brooklyn is possibly one of the most popular locations for an engagement session and somehow I have never been there. When Cara told me that her and Nick wanted to have their engagement session in the winter AT Dumbo Brooklyn I just about jumped (for joy). Add on the fact that she wanted to bring their sweet dalmatian and you have the PERFECT start to my 2020 shooting year.

Dumbo is every bit as charming as I expected,  this sweet little park whose crown is Jane’s Carousel is a breathe of fresh air in crowded NYC. All of that aside we could have shot Cara and Nicks engagement session in an empty parking lot and the images still would have been stunning, the way Nick looks at Cara in a picture in itself. As odd as this may sound this was the first time I have ever seen a dalmatian in person (odd right) and their sweet puppy Beau was the perfect addition to this session. I get the request to bring a pet along engagement sessions all of the time and I am ALWAYS down to meet your furry ( or scaly) friends, just make sure to bring someone who can corral them while we shoot! This September at the Grandview they will tie the Knot ( Beau will be there in spirit) and lucky me…I get to photograph the whole thing!

A Rainy, Foggy, Fall Wedding at Bear Mountain

A Rainy, Foggy, Fall Wedding at Bear Mountain

Danielle &

Brian

Rain, fog, and wind are not typically what Brides wish for on their wedding day, especially when you plan to do portraits under the Bear Mountain Bridge. But let me tell you, If ANY couple in the world could handle having less than ideal weather on their wedding day it ABSOLUTELY  was Danielle and Brian.I say that because in a very real sense this was not the first storm these guys have weathered together, and If I have learned anything from being married for almost 9 years its that it wont be the last. You cling tightly to one another, brace against the wind and the rain, and huddle under each others umbrellas until the storm passes and that’s what they did.

I tell my couples that truthfully speaking sometimes “eh” weather produces some of my FAVORITE images and this wedding is a PRIME example of that! We coaxed a VERY grumpy bridge authority worker into allowing to take their portraits under the bridge where our “sunny” day plan would have taken us and GOODNESS I am glad we did. I dont know if it was the fact that Danielle has the most laid back grateful attitude I have ever encountered, or if Brian is just so funny that no situation seems to be gloomy, or if the way the fog rolled down the mountain as these two cuddled under the bridge just made the whole scenario magical…but it did.

From getting ready in Danielle’s childhood bedroom all the way to venturing out into the rain at night to grab some AMAZING nighttime portraits (scroll to see)  the whole day was intimate, it was personal, it felt like spending the day with family and I know that that was what they wanted. Congratulations you two, I am so thrilled to watch all of the beauties that marriage affords you!
